Geneva Watch Days see luxury jewelry and timepiece brand Bvlgari release three new lines for 2020. We’ve highlighted these pieces in our article below.
In 1998, Bvlgari – a jewelry brand at the top of the pyramid of major luxury stakeholders – presented a collection made from totally unexpected materials. Aluminum and rubber, in a highly graphic combination of black and white, composed the most innovative, modernist casual watch of the decade that was drawing to a close.
The new Bvlgari Aluminium watch is smart and cool, immediately recognizable as part of the Bvlgari DNA while embodying sophisticated, sporty and modern expression: more than 20 years later, it remains a natural-born provocateur that stands out from current watchmaking codes.
Between the two generations of Bvlgari Aluminium watch, the design has been changed in order to improve the comfort on the wrist thanks to reshaped lugs to adapt to the new case size. The 2020 versions no longer house a mechatronic-quartz movement but instead a mechanical self-winding movement, an evolution enabled by the now fully integrated Manufacture Bvlgari. Last, the aluminum alloy is more resistant and the rubber technical features have been improved as well.
In many ways, the design is typical Bvlgari. Crafted in aluminum and rubber, it redefines what a luxury object and sports watch can be. Bvlgari is known for its precious metals, stones, and high price point, but the new Bvlgari Aluminium watch defies expectations by choosing to focus on pure, cool style – executed with unimpeachable expertise. Bvlgari’s Italian sporty sensibility is front and center in this new unisex edition.
Bvlgari Aluminium watch conveys the Bvlgari spirit and defines the characteristics of the brand that has always sought to push the boundaries of conventional design in pursuit of the new, the unexpected and the sublime.
Bvlgari Gérald Genta Arena Bi-Retrograde Sport
The newest Gérald Genta model pays homage to Gérald Genta, a man who is regarded by many as the most notable watch designer of the 20th century, bringing one of his brand’s signatures back to life. Housed in the famous chunky, round Arena case – truly representative of Gérald Genta revolutionary spirit – the timepiece features a smooth, wide, curved bezel in brushed titanium.
The 2020 edition enriches and pursues a long story. The last episode took place in 2019 with the release of the 50th Anniversary model, with an Arena bi-retro watch featuring a platinum bezel and case, blue dial and blue strap. Based on an iconic 1969 design, it bears a reimagined Gérald Genta logo, and is conceived of as a tribute to the brilliance of the man and the significance of his brand to the success of Bvlgari’s watchmaking. This introduction marked the return of Gérald Genta. Now, Bvlgari launches a new model for 2020, with additional models in the works for upcoming releases.
This new 2020 Gérald Genta Arena edition features jumping hours which are displayed through a window at 12 o’clock, while the minutes are tracked on an arc spanning the top half of the black anthracite dial, across which the minute hand travels and snaps back to zero every 60 minutes. Likewise, for the date, which is set in a smaller arc at 6 o’clock. Powered by the BVL 300 caliber with a bidirectional self-winding movement boasting a 42-hour power reserve, the complex mechanism is visible through the scratch-resistant sapphire case back. It comes on a matte black alligator strap with a titanium ardillon buckle.
Fueled by passion, and driven by excellence and artistry, Octo continues to shift the paradigm of modern-day watchmaking with its latest and sixth World Record-breaking design: the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic Watch. Originally launched in 2014, the Bvlgari Octo watch has built a saga of groundbreaking thinness records, and this new addition is set to become a new cult watch model from the range.
It is an exceptional creation that highlights a mechanical manufacture ultra-thin skeleton movement with automatic winding, chronograph single-push, and tourbillon. All those features combined for a 7.40mm total thickness, a concentrate of excellence and performance.
This new Octo Finissimo combines the single-push chronograph with a tourbillon function, driven by a peripheral oscillating mass for a 3.50mm movement thickness. There is no equivalent including all these features on the market within such reduced thinness. The innovations to deliver this development have privileged the most refined technical solutions such as a horizontal clutch and a column-wheel securing the best performances.
The collection has achieved this miniaturization without sacrificing performance. Therein lies the genius of Octo.
