Visionary versatility: the TAG Heuer Connected

TAG Heuer has created a covetable, cutting-edge collection of chronograph-inspired timepieces that combine watchmaking tradition with state-of-the-art digital technology to deliver the most luxurious smartwatch that’s available on the market today: the TAG Heuer Connected.

  • The revolutionary new luxury TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch was purpose-built for sports use.
  • Its OLED touchscreen connects to the new TAG Heuer Sports App, which features a range of fitness-tracking functions.
  • Powered by Wear OS by Google, the TAG Heuer Connected also incorporates functions such as Google Assistant, message notifications and GPS.
  • Its 45mm steel case can be presented on a matching bracelet (£1,650) or two variations of rubber strap (£1,495). Three more straps are available to purchase.

Smart thinking: The Connected’s clever features

The launch of the TAG Heuer Connected marks a milestone for horology. Every feature has been purposely included to enhance the wearer’s experience, and specifically during sport. The watch is powered by Wear OS by Google, meaning it supports services such as Google Assistant and Google Translate through its microphone. It can also receive text and email notifications, as well as control music, provide weather updates and be used for contactless payment via Google Pay. Inspired by the features of a chronograph, its stopwatch function is impressive – it boasts to-the-millisecond precision – and it has a handy timer and alarm too.

What we’re particularly impressed with is how the brand has fashioned an impressive digital watch while also maintaining the TAG Heuer Connected’s status as a stylish timepiece. The 45mm stainless-steel case is available on either a steel bracelet or a choice of interchangeable perforated rubber straps.

The designs are available on either a steel bracelet (left) or two variations of rubber strap, including one in matt black (right), with three more available to purchase

As well as the sporty strap choices, the physical features of the case are fully and instinctively integrated for in-action use and to allow for even more precise commands. The dial is an ultra-legible, all-active flush OLED touchscreen protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. To extend the battery life, it alternates between active and ambient mode, but it always shows the time. The pushers, positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, provide app-opening shortcuts, along with start, pause, resume and reset functions, and the rubber-coated crown offers another way of scrolling through the information on display.

‘TAG Heuer sets the standard for building smartwatches that are uniquely personalised and curated for their customers. The new TAG Heuer Connected raises the bar for quality and style’

The TAG Heuer Connected was created with sport in mind – enhancing its workout-tracking functions, its pushers allow app-opening shortcuts and easy scrolling through the display

All change: endless customisation

The TAG Heuer Connected’s straps, designed for optimal grip, breathability and comfort, come in two varieties of black, plus three additional options of red, orange or khaki. Using the brand’s intuitive clip-motion system, they can be swapped without tools, increasing the watch’s wearability by allowing a choice of colours and materials.

Taking inspiration from its extensive archive and the design codes used throughout its collections, TAG Heuer has also created multiple combinations of screens to switch between, depending on the wearer’s desired style. The range of intriguing options includes a three-hand version of the Heuer 02 manufacture movement’s skeletonised dial, a digitalised Carrera Heuer 01, a liquid-crystal-like display, a unique algorithm-based neural-network animation, and a tribute to the hexagonal nanotube structure of the brand’s carbon-composite hairspring. The dials can also be set to display different colours and programmed to highlight individual preferences, such as notification options or a weather display.

As Stacey Burr, Vice-President of Product Management at Wear OS by Google and Google Fit says, ‘TAG Heuer sets the standard for building smartwatches that are uniquely personalised and curated for their customers. We’ve truly enjoyed working together on the new TAG Heuer Connected, which raises the bar of quality and style for the category.’

Ready for action: the TAG Heuer Sports App

The newly launched TAG Heuer Sports App has been designed for easy navigation, both in everyday life and during exercise. It provides detailed tracking for walking, running, cycling, golf and other fitness activities via the TAG Heuer Connected’s built-in GPS, giving wearers detailed insights into their performance. It can synchronise data with Apple Health and Strava, and new designs and functionality will be added over time to further increase the watch’s usefulness.

Designed with an active lifestyle in mind, the TAG Heuer Connected is water-resistant to 50m, allowing for low-velocity and shallow-water activities as well as running in the rain. It has enough battery for up to six hours of constant sport tracking, including the use of GPS, heart-rate monitoring and music systems, and can be fully recharged in just an hour and a half at temperatures between 15°C and 45°C.

Top-grade sensors set in high-tech resin in the case back provide a reliable monitoring of the calories burned during the time the watch is worn, and the precise GPS system measures the wearer’s position during workouts. This includes a compass for direction, as well as an accelerometer and a gyroscope. You’ll wonder how you ever managed without one.

*Updated to include new TAG pieces below

Combining advanced watchmaking technology with a proven passion for golf and the world of sports, TAG Heuer introduces the Golf Edition of the third generation Connected watch launched in March this year. The GPS-enabled timepiece is created with a black DLC titanium 45mm case and a white golf pattern rubber strap with green stitching. Designed and developed entirely in-house by an expert team led by TAG Heuer’s Chief Strategy and Digital Officer, Frédéric Arnault, the TAG Heuer Golf app is packed with features to help master the course, such as 3D mapping, hazards distance, shot tracking, scorecards, pro stats and the new Driving Zone feature.

It’s built for the very best and will support any player who wants to take their game to the next level. Together with the TAG Heuer Sport app and the range of connected services offered by the new Connected watch and the Wear OS by Google ecosystem, it is the ultimate companion for on and off the golf course.

The three new 45 mm models released on 1st July immediately stand out thanks to their unique aesthetic. They include two stainless-steel options with a deep blue ceramic bezel and either a steel bracelet or a sporty blue rubber strap, and a third option of lightweight sand-blasted titanium on a durable black rubber strap.

In their original look or paired with one of the vivid and quickly interchangeable straps available in new neon yellow and lime green, as well as existing bright orange, bold red or contemporary khaki, the new Connected models are true statement watches. The line showcases the wide range of styles and uses this timepiece offers: from an elegant steel look which could be mistaken for a mechanical watch, perfect for business and formal settings, to a more sporty variation on a rubber strap, which will seamlessly follow the wearer from the office to the beach or golf course, and the most performance-orientated model, in full titanium, for the most demanding athletes – there is a Connected for everyone and every occasion.
