The Watches of Switzerland Group
In these unprecedented times, we have seen creativity and innovation thrive. People, brands, and businesses are all finding new ways of talking to one another, and exploring ways they can present their products and services to stay ahead of the game. In celebration of our dynamic partnership with Grand Seiko, we at the Watches of Switzerland Group announced our first-ever collaboration on the new “ Toge Special Edition ” timepiece on 14th May. While this watch itself is exceptionally special, it was how it was launched that is really intriguing.
The timepiece launched virtually through an Augmented Reality (AR) experience for consumers to ‘try on’ the watch in the comfort of their homes through an Instagram filter. A first for Grand Seiko and The Watches of Switzerland Group, the AR component embodies the pioneering spirit of both brands and their shared desire to deliver an exceptional experience to consumers. You simply activate the filter and it will bring up a virtual image of the Toge Special Edition that you can easily place onto your wrist to get an understanding on how it will look and fit on your wrist. Truly remarkable.
All you need to do to try it for yourself is to head to the Watches Of Switzerland or Mayors Instagram page where you will find the filter in the highlights, or by directly by clicking HERE . You can also search Toge Special Edition in filters directly on Instagram.
Ever since its first creation sixty years ago, Grand Seiko has enchanted watch connoisseurs with timepieces that offer extremely high precision, supreme legibility and a uniquely Japanese aesthetic. The brand has revolutionised watchmaking with many innovations—including the Spring Drive movement, which offers a seamless seconds-hand motion and accuracy unlike any other mechanical watch, and continues to do so today. Every Grand Seiko watch reflects the Japanese spirituality of time inspired by nature. Whether elegant, traditional, or sport, expect a new understanding of “The Nature of Time” from Grand Seiko.
Our new partnership and timepiece is no exception to the rule and is every bit as innovative, inspiring and contemporary as you would expect.
This captivating new model takes inspiration from the Japanese and British legacies of the two respective companies, combining classic British Racing Green with the fine texture of Grand Seiko’s signature Mount Iwate dial. The term 峠 (Tōgè), or mountain pass, refers to a navigable route through a mountain range, and this special edition timepiece subtly evokes the image of a spirited drive over the many ridges of Mount Iwate in Northern Japan.
The exterior case design is an original creation by acclaimed Grand Seiko Chief Designer, Nobuhiro Kosugi, who is celebrated for his conception of the modern 44GS case design. It features a crescent moon-shaped profile courtesy of the Zaratsu polished, curved lugs. A gold GMT hand adds a distinctive touch and the brown leather strap, with fine green stitching, beautifully finishes the bold, refined and minimalistic aesthetic. The watches’ Caliber 9S66 is tested to the stringent Grand Seiko Standard of -3 to +5 seconds per day in static conditions, 6 positions (etc.) with MEMS escapement and a 72-hour power reserve. This timepiece is the perfect addition to any watch collection.
