Retro rendezvous: a fresh take on a classic dive watch
The first thing that will strike you about the new Superocean Heritage ’57 capsule collection is the super cool, unashamedly retro bezel design. Harking back to the original Breitling SuperOcean and an era of oversized American muscle cars, wooden longboards and B-movie extra-terrestrial aesthetics, its large, concave shape will instantly turn heads.
Breitling CEO Georges Kern said the Superocean collection embodies the informal surfing lifestyle of the Sixties and adds a contemporary twist to ensure the watch remains a valid choice for the modern wearer.
Starting from the solid foundations of the original 1957 SuperOcean, the new collection continues Breitling’s legacy of producing iconic, groundbreaking models that suit life on the water. Each of the Superocean Heritage ’57 models features the concave bezel, oversized indexes and a modern 42mm case, secured with an ultra-thin mesh bracelet or vintage-inspired leather strap.
If you’re looking for a modern dive watch but don’t want to be confined to the norm, the Superocean Heritage range delivers big on both practicality and style. With its dash of rebellious counter-culture, inspired by lazy afternoons in the Californian surf or cruising a coast road in a well-loved Cadillac, we’re confident you’ll stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons.
Surf’s-up: Superocean Heritage Automatic 42 ’57
The Superocean Heritage Automatic 42mm ’57 steel model is available with a black leather pin buckle (£3,400) or a steel mesh bracelet (£3,750). Both are water resistant to 100m and make for a beautifully simple, robust and attractive option for those looking for the functionality of a traditional dive watch and the charm of retro-inspired contemporary design.
SoCal confidence: Superocean Heritage Automatic 42 ’57 blue dial
Adorned with a classically confident blue dial and blue concave ceramic bezel, the Superocean Heritage Automatic 42mm ’57 in steel and gold comes fitted with either a brown leather tang-type strap (£3,400) or a steel mesh bracelet (£3,750). We think the ocean-inspired colours of these examples look particularly classic, with a real hint of confident, SoCal style.
Far-out finishes: Superocean Heritage Automatic 42 ’57 steel and 18-carat red gold
When it comes to surf culture, precious metals such as 18-carat red gold don’t immediately come to mind. But that’s what makes the steel and gold version of the Superocean Heritage Automatic 42mm ’57 so alluring. Choose either a gold leather tang-type strap (£4,150) or a steel mesh bracelet (£4,500). It’s a collection and model type that will appeal to a wide variety of wearers, from beach bums to big cheeses. The retro styling, gold dial and bezel accents of these watches are sure to stand out in any number of settings.
Helping the heroes: Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition II
The Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition II has been released to support frontline heroes working hard across the globe to tackle Covid-19. When Breitling released the black dial Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition last month, the international audience saw its rainbow design elements as a beacon of hope during the current pandemic. This blue dial variation limited to 1000 pieces, directly takes this concept a step further, with part of the proceeds being donated to 6 charities supporting the frontline healthcare works in some of the countries most affected, representing a 500,000 CHF donation. In the UK the selected charity is NHS Charities Together which represents over 230 NHS charities across the UK. For every piece sold through the Watches of Switzerland Group, we will be donating £1,000.

Women’s watersports: Superocean Automatic 36
The Breitling Superocean Automatic 36mm Diver Pro II Tang-Type (£2,760) and Superocean Automatic 36mm Professional III (£3,140), although not part of the Superocean Heritage ’57 capsule collection, these are two notable additions to the new 2020 watches. Designed specifically for women who want a watch that combines versatility, performance and style, these self-winding mechanical timepieces are ideal for more feminine wrists. Water resistant to 200m, they are a smart choice for the full-range of modern watersports, while also being perfectly suited to life on shore.
