Thinking of buying yourself a new watch this winter, but having trouble narrowing down your wishlist? Or perhaps you’d like to buy the lady in your life something special for Christmas? It can be difficult – with so many beautiful watches available, how do you know which is the perfect choice for you? Perhaps you’re in need of a little professional insight. With this in mind, we asked Senior Luxury Watch Buyer Lisa Broun to share her thoughts on her favourite ladies’ timepieces, and why she loves them. Read on for her analysis of the Longines Master Collection, the Breitling Superocean, OMEGA Constellation Manhattan and TAG Heuer Aquaracer, and perhaps you’ll discover the watch you’ve been searching for…
TAG Heuer Aquaracer
TAG Heuer is world-famous for its association with motorsport, but when the brand introduced the Aquaracer in 2004, it proved a hit to rival the ever-popular Carrera and Monaco lines. For me, the watch will never fail to win fans thanks to its high standards of design and functionality, which mark it out as an ideal piece for active individuals looking for a stylish and practical option. What’s more, the line offers so much choice, there’s certain to be something suited to you. Personally, I never fail to be impressed by the Aquaracer 300m ladies’ 27mm quartz watch (£1,100). It is so elegant – beautiful white mother-of-pearl dial, stainless-steel case and matching bracelet – that it’s easy to forget how functional it is. Beauty aside, it’s also equipped with luminescent hands and hour markers, a date window, and a unidirectional rotating stainless-steel bezel. To have created a watch which can be worn 300m under water or at an elegant dinner party is an incredible feat from TAG Heuer.
OMEGA Constellation Manhattan
For me, a watch should always have that special something which makes it stand out from the crowd. In the case of the OMEGA Constellation Manhattan, that has to be its famous ‘Griffes’, which have been slimmed down in the current collection – the famous claws on each side gracefully merge into the case and the bezel. The Constellation Manhattan line, first created in 1982, was refreshed this year and now includes an incredible 101 models – I could spend all day trying to decide on my top ten favourites. However, if I had to choose one model which always amazes me, it would be this 25mm 18ct Sedna™ gold and stainless-steel version, presented on a matching bracelet and framed by a sparkling, diamond-paved bezel (£6,000). Its graceful look is completed with a mother-of-pearl dial (perhaps you’ve surmised I am a fan of mother-of-pearl dials), 12 diamond hour markers, and the recognisable small ‘Constellation star’ at 6 o’clock. To top off its brilliance, the quartz-powered watch, like all versions in the collection, is water-resistant to 30m.

Breitling Superocean Automatic
On the other hand, sometimes it’s time to get sporty with a statement piece, and in this case I’d always turn to the incredible Breitling Superocean Automatic 36 (£2,760). This has serious wow factor, and is guaranteed to make you look like the ultimate surfing pro. The versatile and sturdy stainless-steel timepiece is presented on a white Diver Pro II rubber strap, which is ideal for serious divers and makes for an incredibly cool, contemporary look. Down to the practicalities: the all-white watch is equipped with a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel and is water-resistant to 200m. If you’re out of the water and after an extra touch of sophistication for an evening event, the model is also available on a stainless-steel bracelet (£3,140).
Longines Master Collection
Last but not least, I’m delighted to recommend the 25.5mm Longines’ Master Collection ladies’ watch in stainless steel and 18-carat gold with a matching bracelet (£2,020). One of its many appealing qualities is the bi-colour design, which remains a huge trend in the watch world. What’s more, it oozes classic Longines style, with its diamond hour markers and simple-but-elegant mother-of-pearl dial. I also appreciate the handy and unobtrusive inclusion of minute markers, keeping you bang on time. Powered by the calibre L592, the watch offers a 40-hour power reserve as well as water- resistance to 30m. The Master Collection was conceived back in 2005, and its continuing success is a testimony to the line’s flawless design and outstanding performance. I don’t know about you, but this Master Collection model is a timepiece I just can’t resist!
