Since 1995, OMEGA’s history has been intertwined with that of a certain suave spy. Such was the impact of the brand’s first on-screen appearance in GoldenEye that, for a certain generation, the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M will forever be known as ‘the Bond watch’. Now the house is marking another significant 007 milestone. It’s been 50 years since the release of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the film that propelled George Lazenby to fame in the role of James Bond and, to celebrate, OMEGA has launched a very special, limited-edition iteration of the legendary diver’s watch, the ‘James Bond’ Limited Edition (£5,220).
It’s all in the detail
The star of the show is the Seamaster Diver 300M “James Bond” Limited Edition’s black ceramic and PVD dial, engraved with a spiral gun-barrel motif, with a 9mm bullet head at its centre. As fans will appreciate, it’s reminiscent of the opening sequence of every Bond film.
Take a closer look and you’ll notice the Bond family coat-of-arms has replaced the 12 o’clock hour marker. It’s cast in 18-carat yellow gold, as are the hands and remaining indexes. A gold plate on the side of the case indicates the individual model’s place in the numbered limited edition of 7,007.
As you’d expect from the Seamaster Diver 300M line, there’s a date window at 6 o’clock, but it has an unusual twist: on the seventh day of every month, the number appears in the same, recognisable font always used for ‘007’. There’s another discreet detail to commemorate the 50th anniversary: you’ll find a small ‘50’ within the Super-LumiNova of the 10 o’clock index that can be seen only when the lume glows.
High-spec as standard
The Seamaster Diver 300M “James Bond” Limited Edition’s features are otherwise just what we have come to expect from OMEGA’s premier diver’s line, from its distinctive case to its large, luminescent sword-shaped hands. Its 300m water resistance – indicated by its name – and its ceramic diving bezel makes it the ideal choice for those with a penchant for sub-aqua adventures. It’s powered by the Master Chronometer-certified in-house Calibre 8800 and presented on a rubber strap, but it also comes with a metal bracelet and a tool so you can change effortlessly between the two to suit the occasion. The watch also comes in a special presentation box, alongside a useful travel pouch. Only 7,007 pieces are made in the world – this is truly an extraordinary limited edition watch.
