At The Watches of Switzerland Group, we offer other services as well as watch servicing, from battery replacement and resealing to engraving and restoration.
Full power: battery & seal renewal
A battery can run out at any time. If your watch relies on one, we recommend you replace it every 24 months to avoid the inconvenience of discovering too late that its power has dwindled and it’s no longer functioning reliably. Similarly, every timepiece will eventually lose its water resistance, especially if it’s used regularly for diving or worn daily in the shower. Be sure to bring it in to us for testing, rather than waiting for the telltale signs of humidity under the glass to remind you it needs reproofing. The new battery and seals will be covered by our 12-month guarantee, but you’ll need to have had your watch serviced as often as the brand recommends to be absolutely assured as to its reliability – and, of course, we can take care of that for you.
We’ll replace your battery and reseal your watch following a thorough five-step process:
1. Replace the battery, making sure the old one hasn’t leaked and damaged the movement.
2. Examine the condition of the movement, and check the consumption rate of the new battery.
3. Renew all the sealing gaskets on the glass, crown and case back (and the pusher seals of a chronograph), if required.
4. Test the watch’s water resistance in line with brand specifications, using specialist equipment.
5. Check the timekeeping and make adjustments, if required.
Making your mark: hand-engraving
There are many ways to personalise your watch, but none are as timeless as engraving. Whether it’s to celebrate a significant birthday, special anniversary or milestone occasion, we can engrave its case, case back, dial or movement to make that gift – or that gift to yourself – unique. Our dextrous experts can take on all manner of briefs, from simple initials in your choice of font to a complex, accurately replicated family crest, turning your timepiece into an heirloom. Do talk to us about what you have in mind – you may be surprised at what can be achieved.
A new lease of life: revival & restoration
Our craftsmen are trained to work on watches of any age, brand and type, and will do everything they can to help restore yours to its former glory. Worn-out or dated straps can be replaced, metals refurnished, and, in some cases, entire movements rebuilt, leaving you with a timepiece that looks and feels new again. Bringing a vintage watch back to life requires particular sensitivity and skill – its integrity must be preserved and replacement parts will often need to be made. Our master watchmakers relish this and every challenge.
