New York Fashion Week opens on 6 September, with London Fashion Week hot on its heels and hitting the capital’s catwalks the following week. That means that, for the duration of this month, for those industry insiders attending, evening-style elegance becomes an everyday essential. Cartier’s chic Santos-Dumont (£4,450), OMEGA’s glowing Constellation Manhattan (£5,710) and Chopard’s stunning Happy Sport Oval (£11,200) watches are the perfect choices for an event where appearance is everything.
Staying in fashion
If you’re after a chic look, opt for Cartier’s Santos-Dumont, which has never been more popular. It was designed by Louis Cartier himself in 1904 for his friend, Paris society fashion icon and Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, so that he could more easily tell the time when flying. Cartier created a world first with his creation of the pilot’s wristwatch and it has since become one of the brand’s most celebrated models.
Earlier this year, the Santos-Dumont collection was relaunched as a quartz-powered sister line to the recently revived Santos collection. Thanks to the integration of a quartz movement, it has become accessible to a wider audience without compromising its classic appeal.
We’re big fans of the quartz-powered 38mm x 27.5mm bi-colour 18-carat rose-gold and steel edition, which shows off the Santos-Dumont line’s signature features, from its vintage-style exposed screws and its Roman numerals on a round-angled, quadrate silvered dial to its beaded crown and deep blue cabochon. It’s presented on a smart black alligator-leather strap and priced at £4,450.
An all-time favourite
Another watch that oozes elegance is OMEGA’s 25mm quartz-powered 18-carat Sedna™ gold and stainless-steel Constellation Manhattan, priced at £5,710. Models in the Constellation collection have been an emblem of refinement since 1952. The 5th generation of the Constellation collection is based on the line’s famous ‘Manhattan’ style, which has been loved by women since 1982. This iteration stays true to the original’s characteristics, such as the small gold star on the uncluttered, shimmering white mother-of-pearl dial. The dial is further embellished with 12 diamond hour markers and has a diamond-paved bezel that’s sure to draw attention. Another tell-tale Constellation Manhattan feature is the decorative claws, which are slimmer than those on past models. This is a watch that’s practical as well as beautiful, too – it offers water resistance up to 30m, and the long-life quartz movement ticking within allows it to remain slender yet robust.
A playful piece
Finally, any wristwatch from Chopard is a foolproof choice if you’re aiming to dress to impress. In 1993, Caroline Scheufele – now the Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard – envisioned a sporty watch that would bridge the gap between steel and diamonds, and also focus on femininity. Her vision gave rise to the Happy Sport. The 31.31mm x 29mm stainless-steel Happy Sport Oval watch features the brand’s much loved, playfully free-moving gems, while the open case-back allows the in-house 09.01-C self-winding calibre to be admired. The timepiece’s newly created oval shape
marks the 25th anniversary of the collection. Priced at £11,200, this beautiful wristwatch is presented on an equally alluring glossy blue alligator-leather strap.
