As part of a series interviewing the leading minds from luxury watch brands, we were delighted to sit down with the CEO of Gucci Timepieces, Piero Braga.
Recorded at Baselworld 2019, this interview discusses the popularity of the brand, staying relevant to generations of customers and how Gucci’s iconic fashion and accessories style translates to their timepieces.
Braga first took on the role as CEO and President of Gucci Timepieces in 2016 after working for Gucci fashion for several years,
“When I became CEO, our main task to undertake at the time was to align the aesthetics with the new direction of the brand. Something that I had experience in” he says.
Braga then goes on to expand on how his experience was a key driver in his appointment to enable to brand to hit that target or a new direction, having understood that process of change through his working at Gucci fashion. He also speaks about the environment and challenges of merging the Swiss standard of timepieces, “We like to break the rules but before breaking them, we must know them and respect them.”
On keeping the creative processes of Gucci while also keeping everything consistent he quotes;
“The design office of the timepieces are together with our other design offices. This way we can be sure that the line is totally aligned with the narrative of the brand. All product categories from leather goods to fragrances are under the same roof”.
Braga also touches on the iconic GG emblem, synonymous with the brand, and how it translates into timepieces through the fabrics and silhouettes.
“Amongst the fashion houses, we have a rich history of logos. The GG, the diamanté patterns, the colours, the new symbology of the snake, the number 25, the bee. We have so many we can use in our designs”
When asked about what challenges he envisions for the future, he insists that Gucci has a bright future, and goes on to explain how the brand have a unique positioning in the market.
