This year, Panerai finally adds a pair of new 42mm models to its hugely popular Luminor Submersible collection, which traditionally comes on a more robust 47mm case. The black-dial version features some head-turning blue accents, but it was the model with a ‘shark grey’ dial, navy blue ceramic bezel and blue rubber strap that really caught our eye.
The sporty new Submersible (interestingly, Panerai has opted to drop the Luminor name) is part of a wave of new dive watches being launched by the Swiss watchmaker this year, and at 42mm, it’s also the smallest in size. The name may have gone, but the Luminor’s distinctive cushion-shaped case remains, as does its instantly recognisable crown protector. Inside beats an automatic movement, which packs a 72-hour power reserve and powers a date window at 3 o’clock. Both new models are water-resistant to 300m, and their unidirectional rotating ceramic bezels feature highly visible luminescence. It’s due in-store this September, so make sure you keep an eye out.
